Nakhon Ratchasima

Nakhon Ratchasima is often shortened to Khorat. It is the biggest province of Thailand and is one of the Isaan provinces.

Khorat is about 260 km north east from Bangkok.

Nakhon Ratchasima borders Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Prachinburi, Nakhon Nayok, Saraburi, and Lopburi.

Nakhon Ratchasima/Khorat is one of the “Big four of Isaan”. The others provinces of the Big four of Isaan are Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, and Ubon Ratchathani.

Isaan used to be one of the poorest regions in Thailand but is now Thailand’s fastest growing economy. The word Isaan is derived from Isanapura, which was the capital of the ancient Chenla Kingdom.
