Chae Won gelato shop

Chae Won is a new gelato / “Italian ice cream” shop in Uthai Thani. They sell homemade gelato, sorbets and other desserts.

You might wonder why I would want to write about an ice cream shop. That’s because it isn’t an ice cream shop, it is a gelato shop and all their products are homemade.

Besides the fact that any Italian I know would be pissed off at me if I call these gelatos ice cream it also has interesting different characteristics. Gelato actually has a lower percentage of fat, so you don’t have to feel guilty having a treat. You can shamelessly order more than 1 scoop. Because of the lower percentage of fat the flavor of the ingredients really shine through. Gelato is more dense, more intense of flavor and more creamy.

There are 5 flavors of gelatos which are available every day. Those are Chocolat Gelato, Fresh Milk Gelato, Blackberry & Raspberry Sorbet, Strawberry & Dragon Fruit and Manderin Orange Sorbet. The other flavors depend on the availability of fresh products.

The store is very cozy. It’s playful, cute and clean. Ji, who owns and runs the store together with his wife, is very welcoming and friendly. He is Korean but speaks both Thai and English. He seems very passionate about the products he and his wife make. I didn’t get a chance to meet his wife yet, but she is the mastermind behind all these delicious recipes.

Not only are the colors of the products beautiful and very inviting, the flavors are very interesting. Rum Raisin flavor, for example, isn’t an everyday flavor. It’s creative and delicious. You can taste their devotion in all the flavors! It wouldn’t surprise me at all if this wouldn’t be their last stop. I think they have the product, skills, passion and motivation to grow and expand.
